Attractions
The Dog Park is a two acre, chain link fenced-in groomed park open to all dogs to run free as long as there is an attendant with each dog to care for its needs. The park is a beautifully treed area providing cool shade in the summertime. There is fresh water available from a protected dispenser and everything the attendant needs to ensure that the park is kept clean of their pets litter. On rainy days or cold winter days, there is a "people shelter" to keep you dry and out of the wind.
For puppies 6 months of age or less, there is a smaller "puppy park" designed to let your puppies socialize "through the fence" with their bigger cousins while keeping them safe from typical doggy-diseases until they are old enough to receive their full immunizations.
Adjacent to the two acre off-leash Dog Park, there is the approximately 40 acre Hanna Park network of groomed walking trails. A perfect afternoon would typically be a half-hour walk in Hanna Park with your pet(s) followed by a half hour or more of socializing with other dogs in the Kinsmen Dog Park. It is a joy to behold the enthusiastic welcome given to newly arriving dogs by the dogs already in and enjoying the park.

Volunteer Driven
The Kinsmen Community Off Leash Dog Park is entirely volunteer-driven. The idea for the park was conceived in 2003 by volunteers, designed by volunteers, financed and developed by volunteer effort and is being maintained and enhanced by volunteers. The City of Quinte West actively supports the volunteers of the park and city staff are always available to assist with needs outside the capabilities of the volunteers. The Dog Park Committee is staffed by volunteers and, on occasion, sub-committees are struck to carry out specific ventures. The photo at right is an example of cooperation between dog park users and committee during the Fall 2008 park cleanup and wood chip spreading. In excess of 30 volunteers from the dog park user community were on hand to get the work done and enjoy a pot luck lunch organized by the Dog Park Committee. Some of the participants are pictured at right, however, a number of the volunteers that also helped out that day were not present for the photo. The efforts of everyone in maintaining their dog park are greatly appreciated, for without them, there would be no off-leash dog park in Quinte West.

Membership
Membership in the dog park is voluntary and at no cost, however, funds for maintenance and enhancement of the park must be raised by the efforts of the membership. The majority of members prefer to donate a volunteer membership fee on joining and on an annual basis. A fee of $10 per year for the first dog and a total of $5 more for up to 3 dogs per member constitutes a sizeable portion of the annual revenue for the park. On occasion, specific events are held during which any funds collected are used entirely for park upkeep. The annual Barks By The Bay Canine Showcase and Trade Show also provides some funds for use by the Dog Park.
Anyone can become a member by picking up a brochure at the dog park, printing the brochure here, or sending email to qwdogpark@gmail.com. If you need assistance, perhaps you can solicit Kleo's personal aid by telling her how pretty she looks (and a cookie wouldn't hurt!).
